One dark night, I went out unseen
My house being now all stilled
Fired with love’s urgent longings,
My house being now all stilled.

AH THE SHEER GRACE, AH THE SHEER GRACE, AH THE SHEER GRACE OF GOD IN ME !

In darkness and secure, by the secret way
The ladder of faith alone
Oh glad night, with no light or guide
Save the One that burned in my heart

I ABANDONED AND FORGOT MYSELF, LAYING MY FACE DOWNON HIM
ALL THINGS CEASED – I WENT OUT FROM MYSELF
LEAVING BEHIND ALL MY CARES

Oh guiding night, oh night more lovely
More lovely than the dawn
Oh night that has united the Lover with His Beloved,
Transforming me forever
